It is believed within a few years financial reporting based on IFRS will be recognized in about 150 countries, including the U.S. and Japan. In preparation for that and also to measure and assess the financial performance of group companies based on the standardized criteria of IFRS, more and more Japanese companies are looking into converting to IFRS. In Japan, Practical Issues Task Force (PITF) No. 18 was issued, which could result in more situations in which the overseas subsidiaries of Japanese companies will use IFRS for consolidated financial reporting instead of local accounting standards such as accounting standards generally accepted in the United States of America (US GAAP), which are currently used.
